Design Games Like A Pro!
In Video Game Design Camp with GameMaker™, you’ll create incredible games with AWESOME graphics and learn to implement computer programming. Go through the process of creating a video game – brainstorming, planning, designing characters and levels, programming, creating a user interface and much more!
The GameMaker Studio software caters to everyone from entry-level novices all the way up to game development professionals. In addition to professional quality development, GameMaker allows you to create fully functional prototypes for beta testing before publishing a final game at the end of the week!
After learning the graphical user interface (GUI) in GameMaker Studio, begin to plan your game by crafting a storyline and developing characters using the advanced, built-in, digital painting software. Once your characters are created, learn about level design and lay out floor plans with an easy-to-use, efficient, tiling technique that allows for excellent control and precision. Once the basic visuals are established, begin to program the character movement and interactions within their game.
You’ll have the option to write your own code to power your game, or to use the easier drag and drop programming. Either way, learn coding fundamentals and logic, all while programming the game.
Offering a vast database of game design concepts, and sharp graphics, GameMaker is a great step toward professional-level design and an even bigger step toward top-level creativity and innovation!
Some Projects May Include:
Arcade-Style Space Invaders Game
Create a ship that the player has to pilot and use to battle waves of descending aliens in this arcade classic. Learn to add player controls, sprites, enemies with different behaviors, score, power-ups, and lots more features.
Adventure Games
Design a platform game with side or top-down scrolling capabilities that allow a player to explore an epic fantasy world with characters, challenges, and storylines. Focus on character and landscape development, add text/dialogue, and feature multiple levels.
Dash Games
Create a side scrolling, jump based platform game that challenges the player’s skills and reaction time. Create your own courses, obstacles, and concepts. This game is heavily coding based where player movement is programmed, accounting for gravity and collision detection.
*This camp is for beginner and intermediate programmers. No prior programming experience is required, but typing skills and a previous background in Scratch™ or another programming language and a basic understanding of Algebra is encouraged.
**Please send your child with the username and password to their Yoyo account, which can be created for free at https://gamemaker.io/account
Making new friends with similar interests provides a foundation for shared experiences, collaboration and meaningful connections, fostering a sense of camaraderie, togetherness and joy!
Unleash your creativity and come up with innovative game concepts, characters, and storylines. You’ll learn how to think critically and problem-solve as you design levels, balance gameplay, and debug your code. GameMaker Studio will be your tool to bring your ideas to life, allowing you to experiment with different game mechanics and art styles.
Use what the pros use! This software is powerful, and can be complex and intimidating. That’s where we come in. Our curriculum is specifically designed to make the software easy to understand so that you can make awesome games! With effort there is reward, and the camper projects created in our GameMaker camps are incredible!
Develop your critical thinking skills as you dive deep into the world of game design. You’ll analyze game mechanics, troubleshoot coding errors, and balance gameplay elements to create engaging and fun experiences. By breaking down complex problems into smaller, manageable steps, you’ll learn to think logically, evaluate different design choices, and consider the player’s perspective.

So many of our campers are passionate about the specialty programs they are participating in and want to further improve and develop the skills taught in camp. Private lessons are a great way to do this!
Private lessons are offered in many of our specialty subjects. You may book AM lessons from 8:00am to 8:45am and PM lessons from 3:00pm to 3:45pm.
If your child is enrolled for a private lesson before camp, early arrival coverage is included in the cost of the private lesson on that day.
• Lessons are offered in the subject matter of your child’s camp and tailored to your child’s ability level.
• Private lessons are only offered to campers in attendance during that camp week.
• All lessons should be booked via online enrollment. Spots are limited!
One-on-one private instruction is an excellent way for campers to learn at their own pace, gain a better understanding and mastery of the skills and subject material, and enhance their experience at camp. Our instructors are friendly and supportive, and understand that every camper learns at their own pace. Our private lessons are designed to be hands-on and very focused, which enables the instructor and camper to concentrate on improving both strengths and weaknesses. Lessons are tailored to the specific camper, and in some instances, campers may use the private lessons to go above and beyond the camp curriculum in an educational and informative manner with the help of the instructor. Private lessons are optional, and are within the subject matter of the camp your child is attending that week.
Private lessons are limited and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis! Campers have the option to purchase more than one private lesson per week, and each lesson builds upon the progress made at camp and in previous lessons.
In addition to being a great supplement to the camp week, private lessons are convenient! Lessons occur either before camp (during Early Arrival) or immediately after camp.
Private lessons can be booked when enrolling for camp, or by contacting our office via email at Info@lavnercamps.com or by calling one of our camp specialists at 888.854.CAMP (2267). If you already enrolled and want to add lessons, you can log back into your account and add them at any time, subject to availability.
*The purchase of private lessons is considered camp tuition and falls under the terms & conditions provided on www.lavnercampsandprograms.com.

Our camp families ask us many great questions about our summer camps. Below are a list of questions that are frequently asked. If you have a question that is not listed, please send it our way!
Question #1: How much time do campers spend with their course?
Answer: Campers will spend approximately 22.5-25 hours/week in their chosen course.
Question #2: What are your staff to camper ratios?
Answer: We offer a staff-to-camper ratio of approximately 1:4 to 1:8! We strive to create a camp environment where campers receive excellent supervision and high levels of attention during instructional periods.
Question #3: Who are your instructors?
Answer: Our instructors are the very best out of a large pool of qualified applicants we consider. We hire less than 3% of applicants. Typically, our lead instructors consist of teachers, college professors, undergrad/grad students from top-tier/Ivy League colleges/universities, and the occasional superstar student entering college in the fall. Assistant instructors typically consist of accomplished rising seniors. Our instructors are extremely knowledgeable in the subject area, passionate about working with kids, highly responsible, and all have cleared background checks. Instructors go through a rigorous orientation and training prior to the summer camp season and have constant support from on-site camp directors and our central office. We put them in a position to succeed… and they do!
Question #4: Do you have an on-site camp director?
Answer: Yes! At least one on-site camp director manages Tech Revolution at each location. The director is trained to make sure that daily operations at camp are running smoothly, and is also CPR Certified & First Aid trained. Our camp director is available on site to answer your questions, and is available by phone and email if you need to communicate with him/her during the day.
Question #5: Do campers usually attend for one week or more than one week?
Answer: Camper attendance varies. Most campers attend for multiple weeks, and can move up in curriculum if selecting the same course for more than one week. All of our courses have multiple levels of curriculum and lots of additional activities and projects for all skill levels.
Question #6: How do you group the campers at camp?
Answer: Campers are grouped by age and ability. We run multiple levels of curriculum in each camp, allowing for campers to attend camp with us at any time during the summer, even if they are beginners. Our campers can sign up for any week and be placed appropriately in camp. This provides our camp families with maximum flexibility.
Question #7: Do campers improve at camp?
Answer: Yes! Campers receive approximately 22.5-25 hours of concentrated time in their camp activity per week. This, combined with our cutting-edge curriculum and high level instructors, allows our campers to improve a lot! They are also attending with other campers who share similar interests, which fosters learning through peer to peer interaction.
Question #8: How do you keep camp fun?
Answer: We hire fun and dynamic instructors! Campers are also selecting subjects that interests them. Numerous breaks are also incorporated throughout the day with opportunities for recreation and socialization. We offer a great balance of indoor and outdoor time, to make sure our campers have a chance to get fresh air, socialize, and play fun sports and games!
Question #9: How do you create a safe camp environment?
Answer: Camp safety is our #1 goal. We work hard all year long to make sure our camp safety is top notch. We follow extensive guidelines, hire very responsible staff and train them in our procedures and best practices, employ procedures that promote safety and supervision, and are in constant communication. We also implement a behavioral policy that is strict but fair and requires that all campers exude good behavior, do not engage in bullying, and contribute to a safe and welcoming camp environment. Your child is our #1 priority, which means that the safety of our campers is our first concern.
Question #10: Why should we choose Camp Tech Revolution?
Answer: Camp Tech Revolution is a place where your child will learn, make friends, and have fun. Our mission is to provide an amazing camp experience … and we do. Here are some of the things that we offer to provide a great camp experience:
